URA TALKS: The Effect of Social Justice on Migration — Inequality, Rights, and the Search for Dignity

Summary:

According to a 2017 report by the Credit Suisse Research Institute, 10% of the world’s wealthiest population owns 88% of global wealth—highlighting the extreme levels of inequality that fuel global migration. Today, more than 258 million people live outside their country of birth, and this number continues to grow due to rising inequality, climate change, and demographic imbalances (UN).

To unpack these realities, the Universal Rights Association (URA) hosted a timely panel discussion on “The Effect of Social Justice on Migration” featuring three distinguished speakers:

🟩 Dr. Lance ThomasUniversity of Pretoria
🟩 Lusungu PhiriLawyers for Human Rights
🟩 Lehlohono MoagiVeteran Anti-Apartheid Activist

Together, they explored the intersection of social justice, inequality, and human mobility — and how global systems must evolve to protect the rights and dignity of all people on the move.
